Zagat, newly purchased by Google, has finally made a presence after the acquisition. The
beginning of the blend between Local and Social, reviews given by Zagat users will now be added to the Maps feature, general search and Google + itself. Not only will the extra opinions appear with your search, but Google+ friends’ picks will show, and they even added a Local tab to Google+ that will show just recommendations to local places.
In addition to the Zagat results, Google is introducing “Your World”, a search feature that personalizes results to the usage of your Google+ account and the circles related. For example, searching the term cherry will probably give 15 billion results, but with the new feature (above all the spam results) are the finite “personal results”. Browsing through the “cherry” search term results a small icon will appear in the upper left corner of the items personalized to your account. Very intimidating feature to rollout right after the disappointing Facebook IPO, investors may be thinking they should have spent their dollars on a much more technically equipped business like Google.
Now that Google+ may become more of a presence and search has the option to personalize, it’s best to arm your company with a Google+ account and linking to it on your website rather than your Facebook page.
